Real Weddings would like to sincerely thank the staff of the Westin Wall Centre Vancouve Airport in Richmond for hosting such a great Grand Opening event yesterday evening. {Above: a quick iPhone snap of the bar area, complete with ice sculpture bar.}

Though they were in 100% operation for the Olympics (construction finished on time and on budget!) they had yet to formally welcome media, tourism and related businesses to their hotel. The evening was centralized in the main ballroom and guests indulged in inventive canapes and delectable desserts.

We were also invited to wander into the other ballrooms, set up in various configurations for special events or corporate functions. {Above: a quick iPhone snap of the dessert bar in the main ballroom and a detail of a tablescape in a smaller ballroom.}

The 15th Floor was also open to guests. That floor includes their Presidential Suite, smaller suites and related club, meeting and lounge rooms. The views are quite dramatic!

In honour of the Games happening in our city in T-minus seven days, local jewellery designer Elsa Corsi has created a collection of crystal inukshuk brooches. Each is one-of-a-kind and made of swarovski, vintage, and czech crystals, handset and crafted locally in Vancouver. Inspired by the pin-trading tradition of the Olympic Games, Elsa wanted to offer her couture take to the phenomenon. “These are glamorous versions for people who like to collect pretty things, plus, they truly are a Canadian keepsake since they are designed and made in Vancouver!” says Elsa. The designer is most well-known for her elegant, vintage-inspired earrings, necklaces, hair ornaments and brooches, very popular amongst brides.
