annemari ruthvenSince the World Cup is in full swing over in Johannesburg, I thought it timely to share the wonderful Elgin (close to Cape Town) wedding of Caryn and Dan, whom I met last year. Caryn is originally from South Africa but both have been in Vancouver for some time and are now proper Vancouver transplants.

Here are a few photos from their big day on their photographer’s blog. I hope you’re inspired by the vintage whimsy, life, and love that comes through in the images. Congratulations to Caryn and Dan!

gucio tricia chris openrTricia wanted their wedding to be, of course, pretty, but mostly both she and Chris just wanted the day to be relaxed and fun. “We aren’t much for the spotlight, so keeping things pretty natural and informal felt right,” Tricia says of their celebration at London Heritage Farm in Richmond. “The farm was great because we didn’t have to worry about decorating anything!”

Their DIY affair involved many of their family and friends. Guests assembled and helped set up, ceremony music was provided by the bride’s brother Ian who is a music student at UVic, bridesmaid and graphic designer Samantha Langdorf designed their stationery, and everyone enjoyed an assortment of baked goods, personally made by Tricia’s Aunt Rosie, owner of Butter Bakery in Kerrisdale.

gucio_anna_and_kasiaGucio Photography was formed in 2007 by Kasia Stromecki and Anna Kathleen Spong, both Emily Carr University graduates. After four years of assisting one another on all sorts of crazy fine art projects, extending their collaboration to freelance and wedding photography made perfect sense.

seaside-chicShendah and Jeff’s Sunshine Coast locale and seaside theme was inspired by the couple’s many fond memories of visits past to Shendah’s family cabin in nearby Porpoise Bay. “We wanted seaside charm without being too cliche or kitschy… we took our inspiration from natural elements, like the blue of the sea and green moss.” says Shendah. From the fresh blues and greens of the bridesmaids’ dresses, to the curly willow and white flower arrangements, to the personalized aqua candle holders, Shendah and Jeff’s celebration was truly seaside chic.
