Every few days, we receive a sartorial news bite email from Harry Rosen, purveyor of men’s fine quality clothes and accessories. Today, our inbox contained a Q&A from “Ask Harry”, in which menswear-related questions submitted via email through harryrosen.com are answered. In today’s question, Harry Rosen, the company’s CEO discusses the made-to-measure suit, a great idea for your groom, groomsmen and the dads. The perfect-fitting suit is not only a sharp look for the big day but can then be incorporated into a man’s everyday wardrobe. Vancouver’s Harry Rosen shops are located at Pacific Centre and Oakridge Centre.
Q:”What are the advantages of a Made-to-Measure suit?”
A: Made to Measure lets you customize a suit or jacket precisely to your taste. It’s how my father, Harry, started his business, 55 years ago, and we still take great pride in doing it well. Everything begins with the fit. With your sales associate taking 16 separate measurements during an in-store appointment (the whole process lasts about 30 minutes) your suit will fit you not just very well, but perfectly.
After that, the fun begins. You’ll find a much greater choice of fabrics and styling details than with ready-to-wear. Do you want a single-breasted or double-breasted jacket? Two buttons or three? Vents or no vents? How about surgeon’s cuffs on the sleeve with buttons that actually open (no medical degree required)?
After that, the whole process takes from three to eight weeks, depending on the designer you choose. And the price? While m-2-m traditionally costs about 15 percent more than the ready-to-wear equivalent, we do hold special in-store events (trunk shows), twice a year, that offer a savings incentive. So you can be smart in both senses of the word.
